Pop star Justin Bieber said he might have tried out for American Idol if he hadn't made it as a singer.

Bieber, 16, was recently seen in the audience at a taping of American Idol where Usher, who discovered him, performed.

The star admitted that he may have tried out for the show if things hadn't happened like they did.

He said to MTV News: "For sure! Me and my mum used to watch [the show] when I was little and we were like: 'I could get on there, you know.'"

Talking about being discovered on YouTube, he added: "When I turned 16, I might have went and tried out, but this was faster.''
